Peel helps creators understand how online videos are edited. This policy explains what information we process when you use usepeel.com, the Peel Chrome extension, and related Peel services.
1. Information we collect
Account information
When you create or connect a Peel account, we may process your email address, display name, authentication identifiers, and account status. Authentication is provided through Supabase and supported sign-in providers.
Extension and session information
When you connect the Chrome extension, Peel creates an extension session so the extension can securely access your account. Session credentials are stored in Chrome extension storage on your device. We also process technical identifiers needed to authorize the extension and protect your account.
Video analysis information
When you ask Peel to analyze a video, we process information needed to perform that request, which may include the YouTube URL or video ID, page title, duration, video and audio content, transcript, detected edits, text, motion, audio cues, and the analysis generated by Peel.
Ask Peel and support content
If you use Ask Peel or contact us, we process the questions, messages, and related analysis context you provide so we can return a response and support the service.
Billing and usage information
We track plan status, analysis usage, billing-period information, and Stripe customer or subscription identifiers. Stripe processes payment-card and payment-method details; Peel does not store full card numbers.
Technical information
Our infrastructure may process ordinary service logs such as timestamps, request status, error information, device/browser information, and network information such as IP addresses for security, reliability, and troubleshooting.
2. Chrome extension permissions
Peel requests only the Chrome permissions needed to provide its user-facing features:
- YouTube page access so Peel can detect the current YouTube video, add the Analyze with Peel control, and seek to analysis timestamps.
- Storage so Peel can keep your extension session and temporary product state.
- Identity so the extension can complete the secure account-connection flow.
- Side panel so the Peel interface can open beside the video you are watching.
- api.usepeel.com access so the extension can send your requested analysis jobs to Peel and retrieve results.
3. How we use information
- Provide video analysis, transcripts, editing insights, timestamps, and Ask Peel responses.
- Authenticate users and securely connect the Chrome extension to a Peel account.
- Measure included usage, enforce plan limits, and process subscriptions and overage billing.
- Operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve Peel.
- Respond to support requests and important service communications.
- Comply with legal obligations and protect Peel, our users, and others from abuse or fraud.
4. Service providers
We use service providers to operate Peel. Depending on the feature you use, information may be processed by providers such as Supabase for authentication and database services, Stripe for billing, Google Gemini for audiovisual analysis, AssemblyAI for transcription, OpenAI for Ask Peel, Freesound for user-requested similar-sound searches, Netlify for the website, and infrastructure providers used to run Peel's API and workers.
These providers process information on our behalf or under their own applicable terms only as needed to provide their services to Peel.
5. Sharing and sale of information
We do not sell your personal information or your Chrome browsing data. We may share information with the service providers described above, when you direct us to do so, to protect the service or users, in connection with a business transaction, or when required by law.
6. Data retention
We retain account, usage, billing, analysis, and service information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Peel, maintain account and billing records, troubleshoot and secure the service, enforce limits, and meet legal obligations. Retention periods can vary by data type and provider.
You may contact us to request deletion of personal information associated with your account, subject to information we must retain for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or billing purposes.
7. Security
We use technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect Peel accounts and service data, including authenticated API access, restricted server credentials, signed billing webhooks, and access controls around account and usage data. No system can guarantee absolute security.
8. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. You can also disconnect or uninstall the Chrome extension at any time and manage a paid subscription through the billing portal available from your Peel account.
9. International processing
Peel and its service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
10. Children
Peel is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to Peel, contact us so we can review and address the request.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as Peel changes. We will post the updated version here and change the “Last updated” date. If a change materially affects how we use personal information, we may provide additional notice where appropriate.
